Workshops in Split – A story from the Split-Dalmatia County
A workshop for children organized by the Ana Association was held this Wednesday at the premises of the Gripe City District.
The workshop was dedicated to introducing children to the wealth of the Split-Dalmatia County through The story of Primorsko Dolac, which the children explored and experienced through drawing, conversation and imagination. Through artistic expression, the children depicted nature, houses, fields, people and feelings that connect a small place with the large community to which it belongs. Each drawing carried a personal experience – a memory, an imagined scene or an emotion – making the workshop a space for free expression and real learning through experience.
The workshop was led by Marina Baraban, who emphasized how valuable this approach is for children:
"Through their drawings, the children showed how strongly they experience stories about places and people. They depicted Primorski Dolac with their hearts – without reservation, with warmth and sincerity. It is precisely workshops like this that allow children to express themselves freely, develop creativity and a sense of belonging to the community."
The special value of the workshop was that the children learned about the cultural and local heritage of the Split-Dalmatia County in a way that was familiar and understandable to them, connecting story, image and personal experience. Through joint work, cooperation, mutual respect and curiosity were encouraged, and learning naturally transitioned into play and creation.
The President of the Ana Association, Ana Duga, emphasized the broader significance of such activities:
"Through workshops like this, children don't just learn to draw - they learn to understand the space in which they live, they develop empathy, self-confidence and a sense of connection. We hope that the programs of the Ana Association will continue to have support in 2026 so that we can implement such content continuously and expand it to even more children and environments."
The Ana Association looks towards 2026 with particular hope and believes in the continuation and strengthening of support City of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, local entrepreneurs, institutions and all people of good will. It is through joint action that it is possible to ensure the stability and continuity of programs that provide children with a safe, stimulating and creative environment for growth and development.
Workshop "Primorski Dolac in children's drawings" has once again shown that learning through storytelling and creativity leaves a deep mark – children's drawings become a bridge between places, generations and the future of a community, and investing in such programs means investing in children, their imagination and their sense of belonging to the world we are building together.
