The traditional handover of the city keys to the carnival was held this Saturday, officially beginning the so-called fifth season in Kaštela – the time of carnivals, laughter and satire. After the Polantan Carnival, the city keys were also taken over by the carnival from Donje Kaštela, the Poklade Carnival and Kampanel Carnival from Sućurac, who will symbolically govern the city until the end of the carnival festivities.
The handover of the keys was carried out by Deputy Mayor Antonio Budimir, accompanied by Grgica Benutić and Nada Maršić, who wished the carnival participants that after their "reign" the city would be returned tidy and in good condition. In a festive and cheerful tone, it was added that it was expected that the carnival participants, with plenty of fun, would send a message of peace to the world and that this year's carnival would be more joyful than ever.
According to tradition, the Sućurac carnival always covers current events in their acts, and a rich and eventful program has been announced for this occasion. It was emphasized that this year, as in previous years, a large number of guest carnival performers are expected to come to Sućurac.
– We wish everyone who comes to have a great time – said Frane Božin from KPU Kampanela, adding with a dose of carnival satire that, given that the city authorities are located in Sućurac, the people of Donjokaštel will certainly not decide what will change in Kaštela.

Since the deputy mayor officially handed over the keys to the city to the people of Sućuran, Nia Zvjezdana Markov, a member of the Sućuran carnival, was elected the queen of the carnival, saying that she would have fun and dance with her friends in the next month, while the queen of the 213th Donjokaštela carnival was Ela Spajić, and the queen of the 45th Dičje carnival was Sara Kelava.
Donjokaštela carnival from KKU Poklade, The first day of February has been reserved for the 45th Dičiji Karnjeval. As is customary, on Shrove Tuesday, February 17, a large procession of masquerades will move from Nehaj to the port in Kaštel Stari, or the 213th Donji Kaštela Karnjeval. The program will end with a masquerade ball in a tent on the hill in Kaštel Stari, starting at 20 p.m.
What about the Sućurac carnival? KPU Kampanel As far as we know, this year's carnival parade in Sućurac, which traditionally starts from the former sawmill, will take place on February 14th.
It is worth remembering that there are three carnival societies operating in Kaštela, which have been nurturing this rich tradition for decades and every year confirm that carnival is one of the most joyful and anticipated periods in the city. The evening continued with a costume party full of laughter, songs and dance, just as befits the fifth season.
