Minister Šipić, County Prefect Boban and Split Mayor Šuta visited the girl and her mother
On the first day of the New Year, Minister of Demography and Immigration Ivan Šipić visited the first-born child, a girl from Kaštela, and her mother Nera Džakula at the Split maternity hospital, wishing them all the best, and revealed that they had recorded 13 returns of our people from abroad to Croatia.
She was born around two in the morning, the birth went well, mother Nera and the girl are fine.
Minister Šipić emphasized that every newborn life in Croatia in these times is "a gift and the most beautiful gift" and that he is pleased that this year, the Split maternity hospital "has a plus" and is sending good and positive signals from the south to all of Croatia.
"Demography is a process that deserves the most attention after the Homeland War, the entire homeland and all institutions have taken it as the most important topic. This is extremely important to us. On a wave of optimism, we believe that in mid-January we will have the first general results of the entire year, where we expect a positive trend of having more children," said Šipić.
As he emphasized, demography is not a sprint, but a marathon that lasts, and requires patience and everyone's participation in the process.
He recalled that almost 508 million euros in maternity benefits were paid out last year, not only to mothers, but also to fathers who began using the measures, and that a large portion of the money goes towards the protection and safety of mothers, women who want to give birth, and families.
According to Šipić, this year the ministry is preparing an umbrella law, the child allowance, which was paid out in the amount of 195 million euros last year.
He is pleased that 13 direct returns to Croatia have also been recorded.
13 more babies were born in Split Hospital last year than the year before
Head of the Clinic for Women's Diseases Marko Dražen Mimica said that they are satisfied with the number of births, especially with the number of live births, which is slightly higher than last year.
They also had 80 multiple pregnancies, 79 twins and a few days ago - triplets.
He said that the first woman to give birth this year is from Kaštel Sućurac, and this is her second child. The girl was born at 2:05 a.m., weighing 3.680 grams and measuring 54 centimeters long. The birth went well, and the baby is healthy.
"Last year, 4098 children were born, which is 13 more babies than before. We are trying and doing our best to make our mothers happy. We are making progress and working to be as good as possible, and we have great support from the hospital administration, as well as other departments, especially the Clinic for Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care," said Mimica.
The minister was accompanied on the visit by County Prefect Blaženko Boban and Mayor Tomislav Šuta.
One of the priorities of the City of Split is to provide young families with prospects and a future, Šuta pointed out, adding that he and the prefect are "obliged" to create as many quality conditions as possible for affordable housing and everything that young families need.
County Prefect Blaženko Boban, however, said that everyone at the individual level should contribute to ensuring that the demographic program moves in a positive direction.
