CZK - Little Prince Theatre Omiš will arrive tonight at 20 pm at the Cultural Center in Kaštel Lukšić where he will perform the comedy "Guest Worker's Fairy Tale".
Comedy with elements of melodrama A guest worker's fairy tale is an early text by Mate Matišić, inspired by the drama Joseph and Mary Peter Turini. Premiered in 1988 under the title Christmas fairy tale, this play still retains its freshness and relevance today, especially in the context of the new Croatian pečalba and people's departures to an unknown, cold and alien world. Leaving for a completely different life environment often means the loss of personal identity, language and emotional values, and a person becomes a silent observer of their own life, driven by the silent demons of the past and the unfulfilled needs to be loved and to love someone.
The story is set on Christmas Eve in the window of a deserted German shopping mall, where Marija, a cleaner, and Jozo, a night watchman, both Croatian guest workers originally from the Imotski region, meet. Their loneliness and the reasons why they once set out for a “better life” – the death of their husbands and political persecution – develop towards the end of their lives into a snowy fairy tale full of warmth, in which love is born and the possibility of living life to the fullest, at least for a moment. Time on that night loses its measureability and is reinvented anew in touch, a shy kiss and a snowflake that gently falls on the palm of the hand, returning the characters to the carefreeness of their own childhood.
The play abounds in humor characteristic of the Imotski region, but also in strong melodramatic and surreal moments that are firmly connected to the characters' inner states and their psychological profiles. The love of Jozo and Marija, which occurs on this Christmas night, represents a new beginning or at least the illusion that it is possible to start anew - and even life itself.
The author of the text is Mate Matišić, and the play was directed by Petar Buljević. The play stars Ivana Giove Župa as Marija and Marijan Grbavac as Joza. The music is by Miki Nopling in collaboration with Stanko Kovačić, while Miho Dolina and associates are responsible for the sound and lighting design. The set design was designed by Zorica Muše, the costume design was by Ana Džido in collaboration with Ivan Giove Župa, and the visual identity of the play is by Milena Sebeledi and Vedran Urličić. The photography was done by Željko Šunjić, the voice-over is by Žana Antičević, and Albert Kraus was in charge of the props. The poster and program booklet are designed by Milena Sebeledi.
