The tenth county reading aloud competition, organized by the Kaštela City Library, was held last night in the Archbishop's Castle in Kaštel Sućurac. The competition brought together eleven elementary school students from the Split-Dalmatia County who presented their expressive reading skills, and the two best ones were this year's winners. Stipe Samardzic i Iva Kadic will represent our county at the 10th National Competition in Sisak.
At the final county competition last night, the two best students from grades 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 from the Knez Mislav Elementary School from Kaštel Sućurac, Knez Trpimir Elementary School from Kaštel Gomilica, Ostrog Elementary School from Kaštel Lukšić, Prof. Filip Lukas Elementary School from Kaštel Stari, Bijaći Elementary School from Kaštel Novi, "Dr. fra Karlo Balić" Elementary School from Šestanovac/PS Blato na Cetina and "Jesenice" Elementary School from Dugi Rat performed before the Commission. The children showed their expressiveness in their performances, clarity and intelligibility when reading the works they presented in a very creative way.
Before the competition began, the audience was addressed by the director of the Kaštela City Library, Renata Dobrić, on whose initiative the Kaštela City Library first joined this competition in 2013 as the organizer for the Split-Dalmatia County.

- This project is another in a series of numerous projects that we organize in the library with the aim of encouraging reading. In the age of technology, when many children spend too much time in front of the television and mobile phones, more and more of them come to the GKK and we are slowly moving towards achieving this goal. Children come to the library with joy and after the first book they like, they continue to come and read, thus becoming passionate readers. We have been holding this competition for the tenth year in a row and I can say that most of the children who participated in the competition are permanent members of the library and have continued to cooperate with us. I congratulate all the participants tonight because, regardless of whether you won or not, you are all winners because you love to read – said Director Dobrić.
The committee for evaluating and grading reading aloud, consisting of: Radojka Hrgović, professor of Croatian language and literature at the Braća Radić High School in Kaštel Štafilić, Gordana Žegarac, professor of Croatian language and literature, and Zrinka Marović, master's degree in library science and pedagogue at the Marjan Kindergarten in Split, evaluated each student's performance according to the following criteria: creativity of the introductory part, clarity and intelligibility, expressiveness in the performance, appropriateness of the text to the age group, and overall impression.

Before the winners were announced, those present relaxed with a guitar performance by Luka Kujundžić, a student at Bijaći Elementary School.
- This is my second year as a member of the jury and what is striking to me is that I see the same faces, which means that the work is continuous, and we also have some new faces. Tonight, nuances really mattered, which means that the children were very good – said Prof. Gordana Žegarac before the announcement of the winners.
After adding up the points, the two best in reading aloud were selected. The winner in the 3rd to 5th grade category is Stipe Samardzic, student of elementary school prof. Filip Lukas from Stari, while she is the winner in the 6th to 8th grade category Iva Kadic, 8th grade student at the "Jesenice" Elementary School from Dugi Rat. The runner-up, Mihaeli Čubrilo, 3rd grade students of the Bijaći Elementary School from Novi and Klari Rokov, 8th grade students of the Knez Mislav Elementary School from Sućurac and third place competitors Ante Smoljanović, a 4th grade student at the "Dr. fra Karlo Balić" Elementary School from Šestanovac/ Primary School Blato na Cetini and Stipe Bartulović, an 8th grade student at the Bijaći Elementary School from Novi was awarded awards for winning 2nd and 3rd place.
