
Today, October 9th, marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Major General Andrija Matijaš Pauk. He died fighting for the freedom of Croatia, during Operation Southern Move in a clash with Serbian forces in the village of Podrašnica at the entrance to Mrkonjić-Grad in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And on that last day of the war, he was in the front lines leading the Fourth Guards Brigade. In his memory, that war brigade of the Croatian Army was named Pauci, and their Knin barracks also bears his name.
Preparing in 1993 with his armored personnel carriers of the 4th Guards Brigade for the liberation of Knin, Pauk wrote in his diary: "When we set out, the sky and the earth will burn."
The ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the death of Major General Andrija Matijaš Pauk will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a gathering in front of Matijaš's house in Pozorec near the Marina near Trogir, from where a procession will begin to the cemetery and the Church of Our Lady of the Angels. The dedication mass will be led by Don Mato Drljo, parish priest of the Parish of St. James of Marina, and wreaths will be laid afterwards.
The arrival of President Zoran Milanović, Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković, and leaders of the Government, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Croatian Veterans, and the Association of Veterans of the 4th GBR HV, representatives of victims' and veterans' associations, cities and municipalities has been announced.
